Few More with Maizy

April 10, 2012
2.10 miles with Janet & Maizy.
Ticks are especially bad right now.  We stuck to the road.  Shearer Road, crossed over Center Drive, and North Butler Church Road to the church, then back.  Maizy is getting strong and needs to learn to heal.

I've been SO busy that I have failed to keep up the last couple of weeks.  Ack!  There was a day when I forgot to turn Runkeeper on and another day I had another kind of exercise... getting rocks!  Janet is building a hillside covered with rocks, creek rocks.  We've made countless trips to the creek for loads of rocks.  It's good exercise and seeing the progress on the hill by the barn makes it totally worth it.  I was at 7 Springs this past week.  There are huge hills there, duh, for skiing.  There is not enough snow for skiing now, but boy did I want to hike the mountain.  If we wouldn't have been so busy in the conference, or if Keith wouldn't have been in such a hurry to get home... I might have climbed it.  Oh well... another time.

April 27, 2012
2.01 miles with Janet & Maizy.
Chilly, breezy, but sunny makes it pleasant.  Too breezy to go for a ride on Penny.  Wind makes her crazy!  Maizy has a new collar with grippy teeth.  She behaves nicely in it.  She's SO happy to go for a walk and even more so happy to run circles in the yard afterwards.  What a cute puppy!  I need to get a more recent picture of her.  She's growing so fast!

Couple More

Keith made time to pound out 2.5 miles with me on the trails at Hartwood Acres on April 8, 2012.

Janet and I took Maizy for a 2.10 mile walk this evening.

Another random note:  I bought some cabbage grown by a local farmer.  I sliced it, dribbled on some EVOO, sprinkled with course ground seasalt and some cracked pepper.  Then I roasted it ina 400 degree oven for 35 minutes.  Mmmmm... roasted cabbage.  Delicious!

Keith's schedule doesn't seem so bad.  I won't see him on Tuesday or Friday, but most every other day our paths will cross.  We are very blessed for him to have this opportunity.

Let The Change Begin

I'm delighted that Keith is starting his new position with the USPS today.  He was to report to work this evening at 8PM.  He'll be working nights, presumably for at least a year.  I have my reservations about it, but trust that God's plan is perfect.  Sooooo.... thus begins a number of lonely nights for me.  I'll adjust in due time.  While I'm missing the evening cuddling with my love, I shall use the time to redirect my attentions.  Therefore, let the change begin...
  • Healthy meals (more salads, less pasta)
  • Hiking
  • Maybe a membership at the community center.
  • Horseback riding
  • Participation in the Women's group at church
  • Girls Group Bible Study
  • Studying for my CPCS Certification
Of course, I will need to make some adjustments to have special time with Keith on his days off.  I hope an pray that he enjoys this new endeavor.

Keep On Moving

Pounded out another 4.73 miles at Preston Park with Tammi today.  I was really tired and sluggish.  It was still good to just get out and do it.  We didn't even take any pictures.  What's up with that?

Sunny Day

So much sunshine!  North Park was the happening place today!

I'm very anxious for the green to arrive.  None the less, today was lovely.
Today after church I pounded out 6.09 miles at North Park all by myself.  It was warm enough for short sleeves and no jacket.  Heck, I found myself wishing I had worn shorts!  Some spots were muddy.  There was a moderate number of mountain bikers to dodge.  They were mostly covered in mud, but boy did it look fun.  I'm surprised to not see any horses today.  There was a set of tracks, but they were not fresh enough to be from today.  As I meandered my way about the trail, I thought to myself...  Way back in the day I would have sneared at the idea of going for a walk in the woods.  Why would anyone want to do that?  If it's not on the back of the horse it would be for not.  Many years later and actually not that long ago, I found myself encouraged to do so.  I began to actually appreciate parks, especially state parks, and what else but TRAILS!  The kind you walk on with your own two feet!  What?!  Last summer began the battle of wills against hills.  I hate hills.  I would mostly avoid them if I could.  Ugh... so much effort to hike hills!  But now... I'm NOT so intimidated by hills.  I still don't like them, but they are a challenge worth taking.  I thought to myself today... I wonder if I will ever climb a mountain?  Maybe in a couple years?  Who knows?!    These are the things that I ponder when I'm enjoying the exercise.

I came home.  Took a short nap.  Then we had dinner.  I made the tastiest boneless pork chops in the crockpot today.  We also had mashed potatoes and asparagus.  For dessert... strawberry shortcake with vanilla ice cream.  Yes... I think I earned my ice cream today!

Exploring North Park

Me.  On my own.  Exploring the trails of North Park.

It's always cool to stumble upon wooden bridges along the trail.

Self guided?  But of course!  I guided myself for almost 5 miles here.

Skyline Trail.  What a BEAUTIFUL day!  Hiked 1 1/2 miles here.

I was a loner today, but determined not to waste the beauty of the day. It was really windy, but I put on a windbreaker and a hat and set out with an earful of Toby Mac.   It's supposed to snow tomorrow! North Park is a good place to hike when I'm on my own.  I visited some geocaches, dropped a couple of travel bugs and picked up one in return.  Can't beat it!  It was fantastic!!!  Total mileage 6.33 miles all together.

I'm a happy girl!  I'm in line with my 5 mile per week goal.  As a matter of fact, we are on week 9 of 2012.  That means that I need to have hiked 45 miles to meet my goal.  As of today I have hiked more than 70 miles this year.  I've almost doubled my goal!  That is AWESOME!!!!  Here's to many more!
